Fantasy sports continues to grow in popularity with consumers, and the Fantasy Sports Trade Association says it is one of the most popular forms of entertainment on the Internet. There are 18 million fantasy sports players in the United States alone, the Association claims, with American football and baseball making up the majority of the market.
Company spokesmen said that FunTech management plans to use the acquisition to cross-promote group products and combine these on a single platform.
Expanding the television coverage and use of fantasy sports, FunTech has signed an exclusive deal with Sky News to host a fantasy football league called The Fantasy Football Challenge, for the Barclaycard Premiership. Another of Funs subsidiaries, Fanball, will offer viewers four ways to play, including through Microsofts Xbox. Fanball will also be available in two versions as a weekly game and a season-long contest, following a format similar to the FIFA World Cup version of the game Fantasy Challenge, World Cup Edition.
