Big names and big money in UK version of poker's greatest tournament
Wednesday 6 September sees the start of the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe in London - the first time that the globally famous brand has been presented outside Las Vegas.
The series is being held over three venues, all within a few London Underground stops of each other. The Sportsman, The Casino Empire and Fifty London have been chosen by Betfair, the UK presenter for the event, as the venues in order to handle the large number of competitions and players that this sort of mega-tournament involves.

Planet-wide poker aces will be appearing - the likes of Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Eli Elezra, Gus Hansen and Allen Cunningham are all confirmed, along with many others from across the globe and closer to home in Europe. The high priced buy-in of GBP 10 000 for the Main Event has caused widespread speculation on the likely size of the field for this climax of WSOPE, but initial indications are that there will be an impressive turnout.
Wednesday action starts with a H.O.R.S.E. competition carrying a GBP 2 500 buy-in which will start at the Empire venue Wednesday evening. The Main Event is scheduled for Monday 10 September and is expected to run for a full week, with play spread over the three venues but consolidating on September 13 at the Casino Empire, where the final table will be held.
