Employees claim they have been told they will be let go
The BetonSports crisis took another downward turn this week when unofficial reports from employees and an off the record comment from a Costa Rican official of the company suggested that the Costa Rican operations are to close down today (Friday) If true, the reports confirm earlier stories emanating from Costa Rica that the company was selling off its car fleet.

Agence France Presse reported that some 2 000 Costa Rican employees have been advised that the company is shutting down from Friday. The news agency said that a local BetonSports official who wanted to remain anonymous had said: "The bosses just told us that the operations are ceasing tomorrow."
The closure was later officially confirmed, according to Interactive Gaming News, which reported that a company spokesperson had revealed that BoS upper management had terminated the employment of approximately 800 employees, although he could not confirm the effective date.
The company's Web site, BetonSports.com, has been out of action since July 19 (see previous InfoPowa reports) when it shut it down in partial compliance with the temporary restraining order issued by the United States Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Missouri. The TRO has since been extended until Aug 14. when another TRO hearing is scheduled.
