Miles Carroll, sales director for the data authentication software at GB Group, says the company has increased sales by a large amount, and by concentrating on larger clients has improved customer quality. He added, "Of course the explosive growth in the online gaming industry has also been a good contributing factor.”
Carroll said that, just as undertaking an internet search is commonly called ‘Googling’, an ID check is starting to be referred to by many clients as "URU-ing", as it becomes more widely used and talked about. On the e-gaming business, he claimed that URU has an overwhelming 80 percent market share in Great Britain, with the nearest competitor holding only a 7 percent share.
"Identity verification and the battle against internet fraudsters is a vital task for the e-gaming industry, particularly ahead of the possible 2007 implementation of licences discussed in the 2005 UK Gambling Act," he said. “Social responsibility, protecting the young and protecting the vulnerable are essential. We want to help the industry face the possible regulatory challenges ahead. Good social responsibility and control of age is good for business.”
GB Group expects to double in size every two years until 2010. Chief executive Richard Law said in a statement: “In a recent study conducted on behalf of GB by Manchester Business School, it was estimated that the market for electronic identity checks in the UK will grow to over 300 million electronic checks per annum by 2010 and be worth more than GBP 200 million (US$368 million).”
