Betfair Australia is set to widen advertising activity
The decision by the UK government's Department of Culture, Media and Sport to grant whitelist status on UK advertising to the Tasmanian gambling jurisdiction, but not Kahnawake or Antigua (see previous InfoPowa reports) is good news for betting group Betfair's Aussie subsidiary, says a spokesman.

lking to Australia's ABC News, Andrew Twaits from Betfair Australia predicted the move will entice more punters to go online to bet on Australian sports. The whitelist strategy is designed to ensure strictly controlled gambling advertising in the UK by companies regulated by bona fide jurisdictions.
Betfair Australia is likely to aggressively pursue a bigger slice of the English market, as it is licensed by Tasmania and says it can now advertise its Australian services to UK customers.
"We have a tremendous pool of overseas customers who we think would be really interested in betting in Australian racing and sporting events," Twaits said. "So it was very important for us to do whatever we could to help Tasmania, do whatever we could to make sure Tasmania was on the white list so we can advertise over there."
"It's fantastic news for Betfair as a business, and it's great news for Tasmania because they share in our success," he said.
The listing will not help all Tasmanian licensed gambling groups - TOTE Tasmania cannot take advantage of the whitelisting, because it is legally not permitted to advertise outside of the state.
