Potter told Melbourne police that he was taken unawares and struck violently on the back of the head as he walked across the Spencer Street Bridge in central Melbourne, not far from the Crown Casino.
When Potter remonstrated with his attacker he was shown a knife and decided that the money was not worth his life or a serious injury. The robber then quickly pulled the money from the pocket where Potter had placed it earlier in the evening, indicating perhaps that he had been shadowing the unfortunate player.
The cash, mostly in large denomination bills, was Potter's reward for placing 31st in the Aussie Millions Main Event (see previous InfoPowa reports) Later in the day the police circulated information on the robbery to banks and travel agents
Potter said that the experience would not deter him from again playing in the competition.
