LEGAL EAGLE APPOINTMENT FOR UK GAMBLING COMMISSION
Enforcement provisions of the Gambling Act will be part of this lawyer's responsibilities

The UK Gambling Commission, newly relocated to its headquarters in the Midlands city of Birmingham made an important appointment this week when it hired Neil McArthur as its first general counsel to oversee legal affairs.

MacArthur is a highly experienced lawyer who was formerly lawyer in chief at the UK General Teaching Council.

Two other lawyers will be hired to assist MacArthur, and industry observers have commented on the stark contrast between a sensible and controlled regulatory policy such as that being implemented by the British government, and the confused legal scene and attempts to ban some, but not all, types of Internet gaming in the United States.

The commission at present outsources its legal work to Gregory Rowcliffe Milners, a situation that is likely to change once the full legal team is on board at the Commission.
