GOLD INFRACTIONS TO BE OVERLOOKED

WSOP officials rule that rule transgressions were not deliberate

World Series of Poker winner for 2006 Jamie Gold has had his fair share of problems flowing from last year's competition in which he beat thousands of international and American players to take the Main Event bracelet and a massive $12 million winner's prize. First came the hassle with a British television producer with whom Gold had done a deal to provide celebrities and promised a payment of half his winnings. Then came his admission in a press interview that he had broken two of the WSOP rules.

Having considered the circumstances, the WSOP adjudicators (who did not pick up on the transgressions at the time) have decided after reviewing the case that Gold had not deliberately attempted to �violate rules and that no penalties would be invoked retroactively for the incidents�.

The World Series of Poker has therefore decided not to penalise Gold, who admitted in a newspaper interview with the New York Times that he had shown a hole card to his opponent, and had also held top pair and top kicker after the opponent had bet, in violation of WSOP tournament rules.
