Plans to create new customer protection post being discussed

The Gibraltar government plans to create a new post of Ombudsman for financial services and the gambling industry, according to press reports emanating from the territory this week.

Chief Minister Peter Caruana revealed the move in an exchange with Opposition MP Fabian Picardo during Thursday's meeting of the Gibraltar Parliament.

Mr Caruana said the Ombudsman's title had not yet been decided and that the remit of the post was likely to include other areas where consumer issues arose.
