Betting group snaps up two Internet betting groups for total of $66.3 million (GBP 33.7 million) in shares.
Party Gaming ended 2006 with a bang this week, splashing out on the acquisition of both Empire Online group and online casino operator Intercontinental Online Gaming to the tune of GBP 33.7 million (US$ 66.3 million) in shares. Party will fund the acquisitions by issuing 115.2 million new shares, according to a statement from the company.  more...

Orange County lawyer used ill-gotten gains for online gambling
A lawyer accused of embezzling more than $900 000 from the estate of an Orange County woman and using much of it for online gambling had her bail set this week at $1 million, while her arraignment was postponed until next Tuesday.

The plight of 4 863 unpaid BetonSports gamblers was highlighted this week in an article from the Bloomberg business news service in which lawyers for the besieged betting group said that the outstanding amounts cannot be paid due to an Antiguan court order placed on the assets of the company.

Associated Press carried a new report this week that shows Nevada's major hotel-casinos posted their highest net income ever in fiscal 2006 - a combined $2.1 billion.
