Non appearance for arraignment strongly criticised
Betonsports Plc, the British Internet sports book, should be cited for contempt of court after failing to appear for a scheduled arraignment in St. Louis federal court on January 5, federal prosecutors said this week.
Bloombergs business news reports that the London-based company was indicted last summer for violating U.S. interstate wire gambling laws and racketeering offences. Last week (see previous InfoPowa reports), Jeffrey Demerath, an attorney for the once-publicly traded company, told U.S. District Judge Carol Jackson in St. Louis that his clients had instructed him not to appear to answer the charges.

22 year old grad student has a $1.5 million boost for his banking
Starting at a chip count disadvantage at a final table of six in the Poker Stars.com Caribbean Adventure this week, a 22 year old math graduate student from New Jersey with plenty of guts and audacity trounced the competition to win the $1.5 million first prize and a World Poker Tour bracelet.
Ryan Daut, and for that matter others at the table started the final game of the tournament well behind another amateur player, Isaac Haxton, who had $9.2 million in chips at his disposal. But the mathematics whizz, who was initially unsure that he could meet the challenge with his own $2.3 million chip count, showed both skill and courage to come out tops.

Online gambling executive detained for two hours
The CEO of the Victor Chandler Group, Michael Carlton was briefly detained by officials whilst on a visit to Israel, according to media reports surfacing as we went to press.
Details were sketchy, but it is understood that the officials questioned Carlton for almost two hours before allowing him to go, with the official euphemism that he had been "cooperating with the authorities." Given Carlton's professional position and the fact that the V-C group has been doing very well in Israel in opposition to state-controlled gambling services, it is not too much of a stretch to conclude that the *discussion* centred on Israel's gambling industry.

Gambling in your scants is just one possibility....
It's always a pleasant change from the norm to come across positive online gambling articles in the media, and one from the Open Press caught our eye this weekend.
Commenting that gambling has been a popular form of entertainment for centuries all over the world, from prestigious palaces to neighborhood joints, the author set out a few of the advantages to playing online as opposed to the traditional brick and mortar venues. Author Michael Green opines that in the US home of the grand gambling capital of the world the online casino is suddenly, and quite unjustly considered the bad boy of gaming, however a closer inspection of the environment and conditions provided by online casinos establishes that the Internet can and does offer a reliable and safe gambling experience if the player chooses his or her venue with care.
