Remote Gaming Tax rate announced by Chancellor Brown is discouraging
Wednesday's budget speech by Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown has been initially met with disappointment by many online gambling companies expecting a better tax incentive for moving to Britain and seeking regulation under the new Gambling Act.

Speculation on what the British government would offer as an incentive for remote gambling companies to move to Britain ranged down as low as 2 percent, and the Chancellor's announcement of a 15 percent rate of taxation is discouraging.  more...

"It's insane. They spend years deregulating the industry and then overtax it."
The much anticipated budget speech by UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown (see previous InfoPowa reports) was greeted with disappointment and even dismay by online gambling companies this week, and reaction in the British business media reflected this.

Reuters said that gambling firms and casino operators were left disappointed by Wednesday's budget after the Chancellor slapped higher tax on large casinos and did little to tempt Internet gambling onshore.  more...

GBP 470 million on-off negotiations impacted by Brown's 15 percent tax decision
The much speculated upon acquisition talks between Ladbrokes and 888.com will almost certainly be impacted by the high 15 percent tax rate on Remote Gaming operators announced by UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown this week, reports the ThisisMoney site.

The two companies have been in on-off talks for months, with 888 looking for a strong parent to shelter it from legal problems in the US where internet gambling financial transactions have been banned under the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. But the tax levels announced yesterday give it little incentive to leave its Gibraltar tax haven.  more...

State officials admit impossibility of proceeding....in return for a cash payment
The drama that saw then Sportingbet.com chairman and UK citizen Peter Dicks arrested and detained in New York last year entered its final act this week when state of Lousiana officials accepted a punitive payment of $400 000 from Sportingbet and closed the case.

2TheHeadAdvocate.com, a Lousiana legal industry publication reports that Internet gambling charges were dismissed against the executive, who was visiting New York on non-gambling related business when detained on a covert warrant issued in Lousiana. But extradition issues left the case nearly impossible to prosecute, St. Landry Parish District Attorneys Office admitted.  more...
