Leading European problem gambling experts attend Vienna workshop on results
The Austrian listed online betting group Bwin took its massive research project with Harvard University (see previous InfoPowa report) a step further this week by hosting a workshop in Vienna to share the results of the Harvard findings with problem gambling experts across a number of independent organisations. Drs. Howard Shaffer and Richard LaBrie of Harvard Medical School conducted the workshop.

Bets Go Wild does not contravene US online gambling laws because no money is involved
The social networking site Facebook is about to enter the world of online gambling, but not in a way that will have US authorities on alert, because the "gambling" will not involve real money according to a statement issued this week.
US Facebook members will be able to bet online via the BetsGoWild.com gambling application. Although the bets will not be for real money this will allow Facebook's 25 million American members to have a wagering outlet that does not infringe the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) introduced by the US government in late 2006.

53 percent ownership of skill gamer not enough for electronic retailing, media, communications and entertainment group
Skill games seem to be a sought after add-on for Internet sites this year, with several deals clinched by major companies like Funtech, GamArena and GameAccount. It's clearly an attractive field for Liberty Media, the giant Canadian electronic retailing, media, communications and entertainment group that owns 53 percent of Fun Technologies and announced this week that it wants more.

The Stan James website joins some pretty illustrious company
UK bookie Stan James has signed up for the provision of online games and network participation with UK skill games provider GameAccount.
In terms of the agreement, GameAccount will supply its suite of skill-games including gin rummy, multi-player blackjack and backgammon.
The Stan James site will be in some high-powered company as a GameAccount client - PaddyPower, Sportingbet, Victor Chandler, William Hill, BoyleSports and Blue Square are all on the GameAccount network with several other well established online gambling firms.

Riva Gaming Group pioneers a new concept with personal handheld terminals
London bingo fans are trying out a new concept in their favourite game - an electronic bingo hall. The UK's first and sole fully-electronic bingo club has been opened in London and features 582 personal hand-held terminals which will replace the traditional paper bingo ticket.
The innovative technology is designed to help the industry present the game in a more contemporary manner as well as to offer customers a greater choice in terms of what they spend during a bingo night out, says operator Riva Gaming Group.
