Land gambling association recommends back to the drawing board
The proposed South African legislation to regulate and license online gambling in the country has run into more opposition - this time from the influential land casino industry, represented by the Casino Association of South Africa which has described the proposed law as "inadequate" and recommended that far more research and drafting is required.

Significant demand for television advertising has been building
New UK government rules for the advertising of gambling services (see previous InfoPowa reports) have been generating increased interest by gambling companies and could be about to give the UK broadcasters a welcome financial boost.
From the first of next (September) month television advertising in particular will be more open although still subject to content and screening time constraints. And there are apparently plenty of firms looking to take advantage of the opportnity to showcase their services.

Bolcerek steps down, and a move across country to Washington DC
The poker pressure group Poker Players' Alliance has announced some far-reaching moves just ahead, with President Michael Bolcerek resigning to concentrate on business interests in San Francisco.
He will be succeeded by John Pappas (see previous InfoPowa reports) in an executive director capacity whilst former Senator Alfonse D'Amato remains chairman.

Las Vegas poker ace and energetic entrepreneur Daniel Negreanu is involved in a new educational venture with the mobile entertainment company I-play.
The collaboration has resulted in the creation of a series of instructional 'made for mobile' poker videos. Players can download the quality productions to almost any type of phone, and the service will be available on several selected carriers. Branded "Win at Texas Hold'em," the series was launched earlier this week on both the Sprint and Cingular mobile networks in the United States.

Peter Coates's Bet365 made political donation of GBP 150 000 to Labour Party
The Independent newspaper in Britain reports that Gordon Brown's ruling Labour Party has accepted a donation of GBP 150 000 from the online betting company Bet 365.com despite the government's recent apparently harder line on gambling and land casinos generally.
The newspaper claims the donation by the betting company was in the quarterly figures on party donations published by the Electoral Commission, and led to opposition charges of hypocrisy over stopping the spread of problem betting.

Second quarter report shows declines in active players but better revenues
Swedish public company Betsson has published its interim
second quarter report for the period January 1 - June 30, 2007 showing an increase in the traditionally weak quarter of 147 percent in net sales at SEK 155.7million - up from SEK 63 million on the same period last year. Operating profit increased to SEK 47.2 (-12.8) million, an improvement on the loss of SEK -12.8 million last year.

Did Washington State and Louisiana officials collude on gambling charges?
The results of yesterday (Monday) afternoon's extradition hearings on Betcha.com owner Nick Jenkins and two colleagues were not available at press time today and will be reported in due course, but in the meantime Jenkins's blog at http://www.betcha.com/Blogs has disclosed what appears to be some alarming collusion between Washington State and Louisiana officials.

Key resignations follow suspension of trading on company's shares
Beleaguered UK sportsbetting group Interactive Gaming Holdings plc took more damage this week with the disclosure to the London Stock Exchange authorities that directors Mitchell Petchenik (Executive VP) and Robert Spriddell (Non-Executive Director) have resigned effective immediately.
In a statement dated 20 August, IGH executive chairman and founder Thomas Taule said that effective immediately the company has ceased to take bets on its Heathorns and Premierbet sites pending clarification of the financial uncertainty notified on 17 August 2007 (see previous InfoPowa reports).

The fifth Full Tilt Online Poker festival ended with a big splash of cash over the weekend as the winner of the Main Event was decided. Player CrazyZachary was the man in the money with a spectacular main prize of $395 905.44.
Sunday was the peak day for FTOPS 5 as over $3.8 million dollars changed hands between the final two events. Event 12, hosted by international poker ace Phil Ivey, was Full Tilt's first ever two-day event and its $2 620 buy-in was the biggest yet for the FTP series.

Extradition proceedings today
Latest on the Betcha.com issue (see earlier InfoPowa reports) is that owner Nick Jenkins and his two employees have been released on bail.
Posting on his blog, Jenkins says the issue on which he was arrested last week concerns $35 worth of bets between Louisiana independent and adult bettors which took place on his P2P website and yielded him a mere 70 cents in revenue.

Only weeks to go before Europe's biggest poker spectacle kicks off in London
The world�s most prestigious poker tournament, the Las Vegas-based World Series of Poker, is extending its international reach this year by launching the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe presented by Betfair.com.
WSOP Europe is scheduled to debut in London between 6-16 September 2007. The new poker series will be held at three casinos operated by London Clubs International � Fifty, The Casino at The Empire and the Sportsman.

The weekend saw the final table of the National Poker League's UK Open Championship play out, with father and son Peter and Josh Gould competing for the GBP 2 600 buy-in Main Event champion's honours with close initial chip counts of 63 000 and 57 000 respectively.
But all's fair in love and poker, and the older Gould busted son Josh along with Darren Woods and Jeff Buffenbarger on his way to the winner's prize.

Lawyer Nick and webbie staff face extradition
The state of Louisiana in the United States was in the online gambling headlines again as the week closed with a report from The Daily Advertiser that Louisiana State Police troopers have arrested three Seattle men for allegedly operating an illegal gambling Web site branded Betcha.com.
Presumably the inter-state action took place in Washington State and was prearranged by Washington and Louisiana state authorities, although this was not yet clear as we went to press. The men are being held at an unknown location in Seattle, Washington and it is not known whether bail was set, although The Daily Advertiser report does confirm that extradition proceedings to transfer the three men to Louisiana to face charges have been initiated.

Troubled sportsbook group cites financial difficulties
In a move this week that several industry observers found unsurprising, the sportsbook group Interactive Gaming Holdings (IGH) has suspended trading on its shares on the London AIM, citing financial problems.
In a statement explaining the decision, founder and executive chairman Thomas J. Taule, said it has become evident to the company that the GBP 400 000 of interim funding to be provided by General Capital Venture Finance Limited (see previous InfoPowa reports) that was announced on 15 August 2007 will not be received as originally expected. No reason was given for this.

The Bojo Game - all you need for your own virtual home casino
New on the scene from Montreal-based independent virtual games developer The Bojo Group is a new Canadian computer card game and Internet casino simulation program for home use.
Bojo says that the software will go on sale as a download around Saturday, August 25. The developer claims that the game is the newest entrant in the burgeoning casual computer games market, expected by industry analysts to gross more than $1.3 billion this year alone� more than a five-fold increase in sales since 2002 when the young industry sold more than $200 million worth of casual games.
