Cryptologic gears up for major move on Asia
Veteran gambling software developer and turnkey provider Cryptologic is about to team up Brilliance Technology Company and 568 Network Inc in a significant project to adapt and license its online casino, poker and other skill-based games for the Chinese market.
Company officials this week signed memoranda of understanding with the two companies, which both have strong links to the software and gaming industries in China .

Direct Poker will be aired on French Digital TV Network Direct 8
Everest Poker has made a bold move into French territory this week by signing a sponsorship deal with the new poker TV show Direct Poker. The show will be aired weekly on one of France 's most popular free digital TV channels, Direct 8.
France has recently seen a wave of new poker television shows aired on both national and cable TV which have largely contributed to the poker phenomenon in France . One of France's top three poker rooms, Everest Poker has teamed with Direct 8 to launch Direct Poker, a live one-hour televised speed poker game during which over 100 contestants will pit their wits to win a share of the 25 000 Euro prize pool and a seat at the World Series of Poker in July.

25 U.S. Cities to Compete in PokerBowl
What do you get when you combine the NFL with the World Series of Poker? A team style variation of Texas Hold'em, called the PokerBowl.
It's a competition being organised by the U.S. Poker League in which 6-player teams from 25 cities will compete in Las Vegas for bragging rights and one million dollars. The competition begins on May 1st, 2007 in Las Vegas .

Canadian online gambling exec Jim Ryan is headed for Gibraltar , where he is to join the St Minver management team as Chief Executive Officer.
Ryan, who has impressive experience as Chief Financial Officer for Cryptologic and more recently as CEO of the Excapsa Group will replace the white label companys former CEO, Gary Shaw who has been promoted to Executive Chairman of the St Minver group.

Fourth quarter trading update showcases buoyant results
Stockholders of the Swedish betting and gaming operator Betsson will be smacking their lips at the thought of good returns following the advance notice of the group's fourth quarter results this week.
The announcement highlights a 103 percent rise in revenues for the period to SK110.3 million (US$15.7 million), compared with SK54.2 million for the same period in 2005.

Lawyer pays the price for $900 000 modern-day grave robbing offences
State conservator Jennifer Ann Wenger (53) paid a high price for her sins in an Orange County Court this week when she was sentenced to nine years in prison for committing an aggravated white collar fraud on a deceased estate (see previous InfoPowa reports)
Wenger, who embezzled more than $900 000 from the estate of an Orange County woman to feed an Internet gambling addiction, pleaded guilty to three felony embezzlement charges, tax evasion and an "enhancement" for committing aggravated white-collar crime.

Lawrence pays massive bail and is extradited to New York
The retired Canadian businessman and ex-Neteller director Stephen Lawrence is now in Manhattan under strict bail conditions that prevent him from leaving the United States .
The Neteller founder was released into the custody of an FBI agent this week and escorted to New York after posting $5-million US bail in the Virgin Islands following a court appearance before District Court Judge Geoffrey Barnard.

The abrupt ban on US players by Neteller last week has not just discomforted jailed former executives, investors and American online gamblers.there is consternation north of the US border as well.
Calgary regional media report that the sudden decision to shut off over 65 percent of the companys business by banning US players could be about to have a ripple effect in Calgary where Isle of Man registered Neteller operates a call centre with more than 700 employees.

No evidence of crisis planning in aftermath of the Neteller pull-out
The confusion commenced when Neteller abruptly cut-off US gamblers from using its third party payment processing facilities following the arrests in the United States by the FBI of two of its founders and ex-directors.
Online players are sceptical of the companys subsequent claim that it was merely putting in place an exit strategy planned since last November in the backwash of the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. The point has become largely overshadowed by the frustration being experienced by US players still determined to gamble online, but struggling to find alternative payment options.

At the Borgata in Las Vegas the atmosphere was reportedly electric this week as the forty remaining players from Event 1 ($500 buy-in) in the 2007 Winter Poker Open returned to battle.
The field that began with 1 370 players had been whittled down to three, but kit was eventually Tae Baik of Leonia, NJ, who knocked out the remaining two players to capture the first title of the 2007 Winter Poker Open and the $152 960 in first place prize money.

The interactive section of the International Casino Exhibition drawing to a close in London today clearly showed the resilience and flexibility of a multi-billion dollar industry that has survived and prospered despite several attempts to cripple or kill it off by vested interests around the world. The recent attempts by American law enforcers to hamstring financial transactions to offshore online casinos notwithstanding, there was an air of confidence and optimism among exhibitors, backed by ambitious practical plans to take up the American slack by expanding into European and Asian markets.

Formal charges must now be laid by the DoJ
Stephen Lawrence and John Lefebvre, the two ex-Neteller directors who were arrested January 16 for alleged money laundering for founding an offshore but fully legitimate third party processing company, are to appear in court on a preliminary hearing in the United States on February 14.
The US government must now file formal charges against the duo, and it is likely that the case will be strongly defended.

Once again, the French appear to be following US enforcement example
French authorities appear to be following the lead of their American counterparts with the announcement that a top online poker room is facing a ban on advertising.
Media reports are that the French club, Le Salon des Ambassadeurs, has banned all images from one of the Internets most well-known poker rooms, Pokerstars at a tournament scheduled for the venue.
