With a comprehensive official statement still awaited on its crisis of trust (see previous InfoPowa reports) the staff at Absolute Poker has gone from denial to admission and a furious blizzard of theories on its position, floated on gambling information portals.

As the week ended Absolute Poker players involved in the controversial cheating tournament that started the scandal were reportedly approached by the online poker room and given $500. The Absolute Poker affair took another astonishing turn on Sunday when the company issued its much awaited statement on the cheating online poker tournament that has placed its credibility at serious risk.

Joe Norton, a former Grand Chief of the Kahnawake Mohawks who license Absolute Poker In the Quebec province of Canada, advised in the statement that he was the owner of Tokwiro Enterprises ENRG, a company that owns 100 percent of Absolute Poker and must therefore accept the ultimate responsibility for the manner in which the company has thus far handled the crisis. French gaming monopoly law is not in line with EU legislation.
The European Commission, which oversees compliance with the European Union trade and services treaty, stepped into the row over the arrest of Unibet CEO Petter Nylander today (Tuesday) commenting that the detained online gambling executive may be innocent of wrongdoing.

The Swedish betting and gaming operator reported a 416 percent increase in turnover to SEK18.5 million (GBP 1.4 million) for the period ending 30 September. Paddy Power reverses out of IBA
According to an ATE news report, the major land and online Irish betting group Paddy Power has departed the Irish Bookmakers Association due to what the IBA calls "irreconcilable differences."

Sports events run in favour of Irish bookie
Bookmaker Boylesports has reported a fourfold jump in profits for the year to the end of June, helped by a run of favourable sports results. Operating profits were Euro 15.6 million, compared with Euro 3.9 million last year, on a turnover which rose by 25 percent to Euro 629.3 million.

Boylesports said the Cheltenham and Aintree horse racing meetings were particularly positive for the company, which has 600 employees and was founded in 1989. The bookmaker now has 113 shops, and CEO Daniel O'Mahony says it is looking closely at expanding into the UK market. Massive revenues in third quarter
It's no wonder the Swedish government strives to maintain its monopolistic hold on gambling in the country through Svenske Spel - this week the state owned company reported a stunning SEK 1.4 billion ($215 million) profit in the third quarter of 2007.

Online poker revenues ease, but casino and sportsbetting going well
London listed online gambling group Party Gaming has released its third quarter 2007 results, showing a 24 percent annual increase in group revenues to US$116 million, compared with US$93.3 million in the comparative period in 2006, and a 5 percent rise on the previous quarter.

Solid performances from the group's online casino operations and sportsbetting offset a slight decline in poker revenues, which dropped 3 percent to US$74.8 million. Casino operations generated a 158 percent improvement to US$36.7 million (US$14.2 million in 2006) and sports-betting income rose 91 percent to US$4.2 million (2006 : US$2.2 million).  more...
