e-Wallet readmitted to AIM, but first quarter results are dismal
Embattled e-wallet Neteller reentered the London AIM today (Wednesday) immediately before the market closed, only to drop 65 percent in value after posting a pre-tax loss of $14 million for the first three months of 2007. The company's shares have been suspended since January 16.

When the market closed Wednesday Neteller stock had fallen 113p from its pre-suspension price of 176p to 63p, and the company was valued at around GBP 75 million.  more...

World Trade Organisation approached on $3.4 billion commercial sanctions

In the second part of his interview over the weekend with the online poker information portal Poker News, Florida Congressman Robert Wexler stressed the importance in the US political system of voters' views on issues that concerned them.

Banks alleged to be clamping down on gaming companies

Online gambling firm Unibet and Swedish horse racing monopoly clash
The Swedish news publication Travnet reports that Sweden's horse racing monopoly AB Trav och Galopp (ATG) has launched litigation against the Malta licensed Unibet online gambling group on allegations of illegally obtaining information on horse racing from the ATG database.

The ATG accusation is centred on claims that Unibet has been using information from the company's database without permission since 2000, and that despite protests by ATG in 2004 there has been no agreement on the issue.  more...

Attracting hundreds of column inches in the mainstream press around the world this week is the unusual University of Alberta project to pit man against its Polaris poker-playing research robot.

So far the results are not exactly conclusive, with Polaris pulling a draw in the first match Monday against poker pros Phil "Unabomber" Laak and his partner Ali Eslami. Although the robot won 7 small bets, anything less than 25 small bets is considered a draw in the "tournament" rules.  more...

Supremacy still undecided after three sessions

And Polaris was praised as a tough, hard to beat opponent by both Laak and Eslami.

The first match saw a technical draw where the human team limped in at -$70 after 500 hands of play. This was followed by a convincing win for Polaris in the second match as the robot went into a highly aggressive style of play, but then a third match loss for the robot as the humans came back with a fluctuating conservative-aggressive strategy which gave them a clear $850 win.  more...

New Jersey Control Commission gives go-ahead to test electronic poker tables
Following approval to test by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, 11 Atlantic City casinos may now move ahead with plans to test electronic poker and roulette tables, a controversial initiative that could cut down on the number of human dealers necessary.

"I think it adds a new element to the Atlantic City market," Casino Control Commission Chair Linda M. Kassekert told reporters, "and [it] is particularly important because Pennsylvania and Delaware have them." She was referring to the growing competition from neighbouring states' slot parlors, which have already incorporated electronic blackjack, poker and baccarat tables into their offerings.  more...
