Gambling software provider signs up anonymous Asian licensee
Industry observers were speculating on the identity of a mystery Asian-facing online gambling licensee as the week closed, following a statement to the London stock exchange by industry software developer Playtech.

In the statement, Playtech revealed that it has signed up what it describes as a 'significant' Asian-facing licensee but could not release the identity of the mystery company due to reasons of confidentiality.  more...
   

Further to our earlier InfoPowa report on the mystery Asian deal announced to the London stock exchange today (Friday) by online gambling software developer Playtech plc, it has been confirmed that the contract is to run for 3 years initially.
According to Reuters, poker and specialist player-to-player games will be supplied to one of Asia's largest online gaming firms, the identity of which remains confidential at the request of the client.

Playtech CEO Mor Weizer told Reuters that the deal would significantly enhance earnings during the second quarter of 2008.  more...

Admiral Taverns and Victor Chandler get together on Internet poker site
Gibraltar-Based online bookie group Victor Chandler has teamed up with the UK's Admiral Taverns in launching a new pub poker site branded vcpubpoker.com. The site is exclusively for customers of the 2 700 public house Admiral Taverns group.

In what several observers are seeing as another step forward on the road to the eventual US legalisation of online gambling, the Nevada Gaming Control Board will soon release a study into the pastime that it commissioned through the University of Las Vegas earlier this year.

According to reports in the Las Vegas Sun, the objective of the study is to quantify how many Nevadans gamble online, and measure gamblers' attitudes toward legalising Internet gambling. More than 400 people have been arrested across Asia following a five-month operation co-ordinated by Interpol that targeted illegal soccer gambling allegedly controlled by organised crime gangs, the international law enforcement agency said this week.

Garber holds on to share options
The CEO of London listed online gambling group PartyGaming is displaying some confidence in the company, taking options for 3.5 million shares and reversing previous plans to sell some of his existing stock.

Under his planned sale programme, CEO Mitch Garber was to have sold shares between December 19 and 31, but this decision has been deferred. Offer to purchase Sportwetten.de for Euro 1.09 a share
Reports in the German business press are that German gambling group Fluxx has placed an offer to purchase Sportwetten.de for Euro 1.09 a share. A statement from Sportwetten.de said the offer was valid until December 21, adding that it would make a recommendation on the offer in due course.

The offer pegs the value of Sportwetten at Euro 11.35 million. Fluxx has informed that it has already acquired 25,4 percent of the shares of Sportwetten.de AG.
