Don't write off Scunny though, Neil Adkins has assembled a quality squad which surprised teams such as Nottingham Forest last season. If Scunny can hold on to sharp shooter Billy Sharp then I can see them finishing in a mid table spot.
Other dark horses to consider having a bet on, include Gary Johnson's Bristol City. Johnson's pedigree as a manager in the lower leagues is second to none, firstly gaining league status for Yeovil, followed by another promotion to League One. After replacing Brian Tinnion as manager at Bristol City, he has turned around the fortunes of the Robins, which culminated in automatic promotion at the end of the season just gone. City's 25/1 for one of the top spots in the Championship is worth a couple of quid if you are looking to back an unfancied outsider.
The favourites in our opinion for promotion at the end of the season are any sides from Charlton, West Bromich Albion, Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and Wolves. Whatever happens, roll on August as it is sure to be a great season of Championship Football. For full preseason odds vist
