CHELSEA LOSE GROUND ON MAN UTD AFTER 1-1 DRAW WITH ARSENAL
Essien's superb strike not enough as the Gunners hold out over the last ten minutes to share the spoils - Sunday 10th December 06

Reigning English Premiership Champions lose ground on league leaders Manchester United after only managing a 1 - 1 draw with London Rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea players surround the referee after Cole's First Half Booking

Despite putting Arsenal under immense pressure during the most part of the game, it was indeed Arsenal who took the lead in the 78th minute, as Hilario was unable to stop Flamini's strike. However a few minutes later, Chelsea equalised after the referee ignored a blatant foul by Ashley Cole on Hleb. Thus allowing Frank Lampard to set up Michael Essien to score a peach of a goal which swerved past the floundering Lehman.

This set up a grandstand last ten minutes, whereby Chelsea were denied by the woodwork twice as they took the game to Arsenal. However Arsenal stood firm and after four minutes of injury time Alan Wiley blew the full time whistle, which  meant that both Chelsea and Arsenal would share the points. By failing to win, Chelsea are now 8 points behind Manchester United with a game in hand.
