The first match between these sides this season ended in a goalless draw at St. James' Park.
Both teams will be keen to avoid a similar result this time. Despite continuing to be in contention for fourth place, Villa have hit a dodgy patch of form and, like Newcastle, have managed just two points in three Premiership matches.

Newcastle finally scored their first Premiership goal in over 7 hours against Middlesbrough; the goal from Michael Owen would have gone a long way to restoring his confidence.  more...

This Sunday sees two of the fiercest rivals in club football clash when Man Utd face Man City at Old Trafford.
This will be the 149th time these two teams have faced each other in a competitive fixture, with United having won 59 games and City having won 40, with the most recent game resulting in a 1-0 win for City, courtesy of a Geovanni goal.

United have recovered brilliantly from their early season slump to be within two points of league leaders Arsenal, whereas seventh placed City find themselves 17 points adrift of United.  more...

The second big match on Sunday sees title challengers Chelsea take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in what looks to be a make or break game for both sides.
After a disappointing 1-1 draw at Portsmouth last weekend, Chelsea are now 6 points behind leaders Arsenal and now face a mammoth task to regain the title they last held in 2006.

Despite dropping points last week, Chelsea's form is still red hot and the side has only tasted defeat once in 30 games.  more...

Arsenal ended Man City's 12-game unbeaten run in the Premiership last week.
Given the performance of their two strikers, Emmanuel Adebayor and Eduardo in that 3-1 victory, it's easy to see why the Gunners have scored more goals than any other team in the top flight.

Mark Hughes' side can make life very difficult for the opposition on their day and if they can limit the time Cesc Fabregas and Mathieu Flamini have on the ball in the centre of the park and create a few chances of their own for Roque Santa Cruz, they could stand a chance of repeating the draw they achieved at home to Arsenal earlier in the season.  more...

This Saturday sees the exciting totesport Trophy Hurdle at Newbury.
With 24 top runners in this event, you can be sure this will be a fantastic race.

With the Nicholls team having such a great weekend at Sandown last weekend, Five Dreams, one of the favourites for the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham this year, will be hoping for another good performance in preparation of the Festival in over 5 weeks time.  more...

This Sunday sees England take on Italy at the Stadio Flaminio.
After last weekend's shock 19-26 defeat to Wales, with England at one point leading 16-6, the Three Lions have much to prove and none more so than Johnny Wilkinson.

England have been priced as favourites for this match, with bookies offering 1/6 for England to bounce back, while Italy have been priced at 4/1 to take advantage of England's inconsistent form.  more...

Preview of the Championship
Saturday 11th August sees the start of the Football League Championship 2007 - 2008 season. The tie of the opening weekend has to be the match up between recently relegated Charlton Atheltic who entertain League One Winners Scunthorpe United. The bookies see differing fortunes for both teams, with most expecting Charlton to bounce back up to the Premier League, with Scunthorpe rejoining League 1 by the end of the season. more...

Can you really beat the bookies?
The argument goes something like this – you can’t beat the bookies, no one ever does, many have tried and all have failed. You have heard this many times from many ‘sensible’ people, but how true is this? Well obviously the history of gambling is littered with many who have lost, in some cases amounts nearing the GDP of a small country. The stories of these legendary losers are held up as examples to all to avoid this folly. However, gambling is a broad term that covers so many pursuits whereby money can be lost or gained.  more...
