EUROPEAN CUP FINAL: AC MILAN 2 - 1 LIVERPOOL
AC Milan win the European Champions League for a 7th Time

Star Italian AC Milan striker scores a goal either side of half time to secure for AC Milan their 7th European Cup triumph and gain revenge over Liverpool for their defeat in the final in Istanbul in 2005. Liverpool who dominated the opening proceedings in Athens were hit just before half time by a Andrea Pirlo free-kick taken just outside the area, which took a deflection of Pippo Inzaghi and past the wrong footed Pepe Reina.

The second half saw Milan content to sit back behind the ball soaking up Liverpool pressure. With eight minutes left and with either side failing to make inroads on each other's goals, Milan increased their lead when Kaka released Inzaghi. Inzaghi made most of his opportunity and rounded Reina to roll the ball into the net to make it 2 - 0 in Milan's favour.

A last minute Dirk Kuyt header pulled the score back to 2 - 1, but it was all too late for Liverpool and Milan ensured there was to be no repeat of the comeback two years ago in Turkey.
