WINNING START FOR ENGLAND UNDER CAPELLO
England saw off the co-hosts of Euro 2008, winning 2-1 over Switzerland at Wembley

Goals from Jemaine Jenas and Shaun Wright-Phillips ensured England beat a workmanlike Swiss side and provide Capello with a winning start.

The first half saw England start slowly and they survived an early scare when Mario Eggimann headed wide with the goal at his mercy.

However England soon gained their composure and good work from Joe Cole operating on the left wing, set up Jermain Jenas to open the scoring on 40 minutes.

Switzerland equalised early into the second half, but an assured performance from England saw Steve Gerrard set up Shaun Wright Phillips for England's second and ultimately winning goal.

In other matches played tonight, Wales beat Norway 3-0, whilst Eire lost 1-0 to Brazil. Northern Ireland also lost 1-0 at Windsor Park to Bulgaria.
